Going hot air ballooning has been on our bucket list for quite a while now, but it’s something we just haven’t had a chance to do yet. We were so excited to be invited along to take flight with Orlando Balloon Rides and see The City Beautiful from above.
Due to the atmosphere, you’re only able to take a balloon flight in Orlando at sunrise. We didn’t have a car and it was a really early start (445am!) – so we opted to purchase transport through Orlando Balloon Rides ($20pp). It’s also handy to have a cheeky snooze on the way, we’re all about that multi-tasking! We were blown away with how lovely all the staff were, from the receptionist, to the drivers and the pilots.
One of the coolest parts about Orlando Balloon Rides is how involved you are with the process! Their experienced pilots and staff explain clearly what’s happening and why. Jeremy was lucky enough to be asked to hold the balloon while it was inflated by the giant fans in the very early morning. He felt extremely manly and important during this task…(so please let him know in the comments this isn’t true, to keep him grounded).
It was pretty surreal seeing all these giant balloons grow, and grow, and grow. There’s something about it that gets you super fired up (…haha) and fills you with anticipation. Before long, it’s time to hop into the basket and fly away! Our balloon had 16 people in it, with 4 people per compartment. It sounds like a bunch of people but it’s roomier than it sounds.
Sunrise is always a treat and on our flight the sun really came out to play. The light was gorgeous and we had such a peaceful time floating along in the sky! We loved being able to see the sprinkle of balloons behind us.
We absolutely loved our first hot air balloon ride and will definitely do it again at some point. It’s a relaxing and novel way of seeing a city, especially one as beautiful as Orlando. A huge thanks to Orlando Balloon Rides and Visit Orlando for having us.
